We're on a green journey
North Norfolk Community Transport celebrates 25 years on the road with a new electric bus.
In 2025 North Norfolk Community Transport (NNCT) celebrates its 25th year of serving the community. However, it is looking to the future as it reveals its first electric bus. From their office based in North Walsham they provide transport across the whole of North Norfolk to people who are rurally isolated and without access to a suitable vehicle.
Chair of Trustees , Nigel Lloyd said 'I wish to offer my sincere thanks to all the organisations that have helped us add a brand new vehicle to our fleet (see below) . One of our strategic aims as a charity is to reduce the carbon footprint of our activities. I am therefore delighted that we have been able to replace a diesel-powered vehicle with a brand new zero emission vehicle, especially as we celebrate our 25th anniversary year of serving communities in North Norfolk.
NNCT's mission is to enhance quality of life by supporting people to access local services, connect with their community and their friends and family. They do this by providing transport services which include; Dial-a-Ride minibus transport from isolated hamlets and villages to local shops and supermarkets, wheelchair accessible vehicles for medical appointments, minibus hire to community groups and charities, and group outings to places of interest.
The charity exists to fill the extensive gaps in rural transport across North Norfolk and to help combat loneliness and isolation. Many people have highlighted that they would be unable to leave homes without this essential service, which is run by a mixture of staff and volunteers. In a recent survey, one passenger said 'The service has improved my life immensely. My Thursday morning shopping trip is a lifeline' and another comment was 'I would not have been able to stay in my bungalow without their help. At 93 years they are now my nearest living friends'.
The North Norfolk Rural Business and Community project is part-funded by the UK Government through the Rural England Prosperity Fund and was supported by North Norfolk District Council and delivered in partnership with Norfolk County Council.
Further grant support has been provided by the William and Patricia Venton Charitable Trust and the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm Community Fund.
Colin Galer, Plant Manager of the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm, said: "We congratulate NNCT on its 25th anniversary, and are very pleased to have provided grant support for its 5 year carbon emissions reduction plan, of which the new EV bus is an important element."
Executive Lead of NNCT, Jane Bishop said "we are so excited to have reached this milestone. We know the future is electric and we want to be part of that. The bus will enable us to support even more people while contributing to more sustainable, decarbonised rural transport".
